CAA Outreach @ MNPOC Pride Family Day

Join CAA at the MNPOC Pride Family DayFestival! Together we'll run a trivia game about animal rights and welfare, and supply people with recipes, resources, and actions they can take to protect farmed animals. Sign up to volunteer at caa.mn/volunteer WHAT IS MNPOC PRIDE FAMILY DAY?MNPOC Pride Festival is hosted by MNPOC Pride, which describes it as a five-day celebration "uplifting LGBTQ+ people of color and our allies across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest." The festival takes place August 12-16, concluding with Family Day in the Park at Powderhorn Park on August 16. This event features live entertainment, nonprofit and community tables, merchandise booths, food, and more from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You're welcome to plan time to walk around the event before or after your volunteer shift. VOLUNTEERING WITH CAACAA will be tabling from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 16. We'll talk to attendees about compassion for farmed animals and plant-based eating, and offer free games, resources, and magazines, plus quick actions people can take to protect animals. At the front table, we'll have a spin wheel game where attendees guess an answer to a question that helps them learn about common animal agriculture practices. Sample questions: Chicken farmers are encouraged to provide how many square feet per chicken? (Answer: less than 1, according to the National Chicken Council and average weights) Nearly all pigs in the U.S. have parts of their body cut off without any painkillers. What part? (Answer: their tail, according to studies from Porcine Health Management) On egg farms, what percentage of chicks are killed within 1 day of hatching? (Answer: 50% — look up chick culling) Answers are all on a cheat sheet for volunteers. This trivia format shares hard-hitting facts about animal cruelty in a quick, digestible way. For young children, we have fun questions about animals (did you know fish can recognize different songs?). After attendees play trivia, we talk together about their question and offer concrete next steps, like writing a letter to their representative or corporation, or taking the Veg Pledge. WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?If you're passionate about animal protection and helping people move toward plant-based eating, this is for you. We'll support you throughout your shift in how to do effective outreach. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult.
