***Event Timeline***
International Respect for Chickens Day was launched in 2005 by United Poultry Concerns. This year, CAA is grateful to partner with Chicken Run Rescue to celebrate the holiday and to remember the recently-passed Karen Davis, President of United Poultry Concerns.
11:30am-12:00pm: Opening circle.
12:00-2:30pm: Workday with the chickens.
2:30-3:00pm: Vegan potluck opens.
3:00-4:00 Tuning in to a memorial for Karen Davis, founder of United Poultry Concerns. Taking a group photo with chicken portraits.
There will be snacks, sunscreen, and bug repellent available during the event. The event will be at Chicken Run Rescue, which is south of the Metro area. It’s about 40 minutes’ drive south of the Twin Cities, and 20 minutes south of Apple Valley. The address will be shared with volunteers prior to the event.
***How can I sign up to volunteer?***
Be sure to register here --
https://signup.com/go/caFKbee
– otherwise, you will not receive necessary information on the event (like the address).
***What Next?***
We’ll reach out to you a few days prior to the event to confirm your participation. At that time we’ll introduce you to the staff leading the event. You’ll get their cell phone number in case anything comes up day-of. If you have questions in the meantime, reach out to info@exploreveg.org.
Recordings of the Humane Hoax webinar sessions will be available after the event.
***Biosecurity at the event***
Avian flu has killed millions of birds, both wild and domestic. The poultry industry’s “management” of chicken flocks with infected members through ventilation shutdown has horrifically killed millions more. Our priority at this event is to keep the residents at Chicken Run Rescue, and everyone else, safe.
-Please wear clothes that have been freshly washed in hot water.
-Wear clean shoes. When entering, thoroughly dip your shoes in the foot bath at the entrance.
-If you spend time in settings that put you at risk to spread avian flu (like volunteering at a wildlife center), please abstain from volunteering at this event. We hope to see you at other sanctuary and outreach events for the birds!
***Join CAA at Other Events***
Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) hosts many events throughout the year promoting vegan eating, including Twin Cities Veg Fest, the Twin Cities Vegan Chef Challenge, outreach at festivals, the Vegan Recipe Club, cooking classes, potlucks, and so much more! Visit
