WHY
Charles River operates a large scale canine inhalation toxicity testing at 55 Union Street with anywhere between 150 and 250 dogs (beagles) being kept in cages and experimented on at any given time. The latest USDA inspection report from 2026 listed 151 dogs, down from 179 in 2025 and 247 in 2024.
This facility has been experimenting on beagles and other dogs for decades, with Charles River taking over the operation in 2016.
CRL has over 7,300 canines listed on their 2025 company wide USDA report.
Many of the dogs inside the facility on Union Street have likely been 'mask-trained' (severely psychologically abused) by seller Marshall BioResources (MBR) to wear gas masks and get tubes shoved down their throat for the purpose of oral gavage.
MBR is the largest breeder of laboratory beagles in the country by FAR (16,000-23,000+ dogs), and Charles River Laboratories is one of their biggest ongoing contract buyers -- hundreds if not thousands of beagles every year.
Marshall Farms gets more money from these 'mask-trained' dogs that have been psychologically broken to be more compliant for the toxicity testing they will undergo over and over once they are sold to companies like CRL.
Biomere has the largest non-human primate colony in New England right next door at 57 Union Street, keeping over 500 monkeys in small cages while racking up USDA violations from acts that would constitute felony animal cruelty if a member of the public committed them.
Both of these companies also do cruel tests on and kill many rabbits inside these walls, as well as many thousands of mice and rats, as well as mini pigs, sheep and many other unfortunate animals as well.
Please come stand up for the monkeys, beagles, rabbits, rats, mini pigs, sheep mice and all of the animals abused, exploited and killed by CRL & Biomere in downtown Worcester!
