Join co-hosts The Culture & Animals Foundation and the Animals & Society Section of the American Sociological Association on ๐ง๐๐ฒ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, ๐ก๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ญ๐ณ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ ๐ญ๐ฎ ๐ฝ๐บ ๐ฃ๐ง/๐ฏ ๐ฝ๐บ ๐๐ง for the upcoming online Animals & Society Colloquium Series event where Nancy Rios-Contreras, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Chapman University, will discuss migration and family separation through a multi-species lens, examining how human migration affects not only people but also the animals who are part of their families.
This research considers the consequences of being separated from companion animals during migration and asks how these experiences complicate conventional understandings of displacement, punishment, and violence. By centering relationships between humans and animals, this research offers a broader perspective on border enforcementโand whose experiences are often overlooked.
