About this event

Come to the Outdoor Library Amphitheater to hear this incredible speaker at VegFest - Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 at 4:10pm! As of this June 2026, the Great Salt Lake sits at just three feet above the record low of 4,188 feet set in November 2022. While everyone's attention is on AI and data centers, we are neglecting an even larger culprit in our water crisis: animal agriculture. In order to consume the same amount of water as a quarter pound of beef, a person would have to use 70,000 ai prompts. Agriculture accounts for about 71% of the water diverted from the Great Salt Lake basin, and roughly three-quarters of that water is used to grow just two crops: alfalfa and other hay grown almost exclusively to feed cattle, pigs and other nonhuman animals who are subjected to exploitation by the meat industry. Come learn more with Hannah Rogers! Growing up, Hannah spent her summers on long backpacking trips to the Uintah mountains with her Dad who helped cultivate her love of the natural world, eventually leading her to get two bachelor's degrees in natural sciences from the University of Utah. She worked for NASA before her current position at Weber State University.
