About this event

People with disabilities represent about a fourth of the population but are often ignored or accidentally insulted by vegan and animal rights campaigns. This presentation explores how ableism can show up in vegan and animal rights messaging, often unintentionally excluding disabled people. We’ll look at common narratives, rethink animal advocacy through a disability justice lens, and imagine more inclusive ways to speak about liberty and compassion for everybody. The majority of VINE staff, and many VINE volunteers, are people with disabilities. In 2024, VINE received a Spirit of the ADA award from the Vermont Governor's Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities.
