About this event
~ Embracing a Healthier, Sustainable, Compassionate and Peaceful way of eating and living ~
Here’s info for our Earthsave potluck dinner series. Please RSVP on Baltimore Veg/Vegan Meetup https://www.meetup.com/the-baltimore-vegan-meetup-group/
Potluck will feature a screening of "PlantPure Nation", a well-produced 2015 documentary about the benefits of plant-based nutrition as a solution to pervasive health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity. After nutritional scientist Dr. T. Colin Campbell delivered a speech in the Kentucky House of Representatives, his son Nelson and Rep. Tom Riner attempted to pass a bill for a pilot program to document the health advantages of eating plant-based. The legislation was ultimately killed in committee by agribusiness lobbyists.
So, Dr. Campbell’s son Nelson decided to take matters into his own hands by running his own pilot project in his hometown of Mebane, NC—a town heavily influenced by Southern barbecue and cattle farming. He enrolled a diverse group of residents, including a local cattle farmer, in a 10-day "Jumpstart" program. Participants were provided with education, medical evaluations, and freshly prepared plant-based meals. The program yielded astounding results, with participants experiencing an average 20% drop in total and bad (LDL) cholesterol, alongside significant improvements in various chronic conditions. (Registered dietician Mark Rifkin will take questions after the film.)
