About this event

πŸ“š In honor of Disability Pride Month, we will be reading "The Future Is Disabled by Leah Laksmi Piepzna-Samarasinha" in July and August. We will discuss Part 1 at our July meeting and Part 2 at our August meeting. DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND BOTH MEETINGS. πŸ“– ABOUT: In The Future Is Disabled, Leah Laksmi Piepzna-Samarasinha asks some provocative questions: What if, in the near future, the majority of people will be disabled - and what if that's not a bad thing? And what if disability justice and disabled wisdom are crucial to creating a future in which it's possible to survive fascism, climate change, and pandemics and to bring about liberation? Building on the work of her game-changing book Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice, Piepzna-Samarasinha writes about disability justice at the end of the world, documenting the many ways disabled people kept and are keeping each other - and the rest of the world - alive during Trump, fascism and the COVID-19 pandemic. Other subjects include crip interdependence, care and mutual aid in real life, disabled community building, and disabled art practice as survival and joy. 🧐 For more information, including content warnings, visit: https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/7e0d8b22-051a-4038-a38f-ad05c4e0d91b πŸ“• Whether you're a seasoned activist or a curious newcomer, live in the PNW or beyond, all are welcome to join the Animal Rights Collective Portland (ARCPDX) Book Club! πŸ™ Thank you to Takara for leading, and Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN), Veggies Do It Better Events, and Northwest VEG for co-hosting. πŸ—“ Monday, July 27th (Part 1) & August 31st (Part 2) ⏰ 6:30-8pm πŸ’» Zoom ID: 850 7168 2742 Passcode: 053888 https://us02web.zoom.us/meetings/85071682742/invitations?signature=t3UhdH6XmxxkRMeA58y9RxEFmBL0dz37E8ohMlhGPDQ πŸ’šAs always, arrive when you can and leave when you need to. __________________ πŸ“• Books are suggested and voted on by the group.
