About this event

On Monday evening, the City of Pico Rivera Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss permanently revoking planning permission for the Manning Beef slaughterhouse—the last cow slaughterhouse in Los Angeles County before it shuttered in 2025 due to bankruptcy. Now, despite owing more than $25 million and failing to pay creditors, the owner is attempting to resurrect this facility under a new name: "Palermo Meats." This is our moment to ensure that LA County moves forward, not backward. The City of Pico Rivera has an opportunity to reclaim this space and transform it into something that truly serves the community—not a place of violence and exploitation. We need you there. A strong public turnout sends an unmistakable message: the Manning Beef slaughterhouse is a stain on Pico Rivera's past, and it has no place in its future. Our last protest on this issue drew significant attention, with coverage from KTLA and the LA Times—proof that people are paying attention and that our voices matter. Let's build on that momentum and show even stronger support this time. We will meet at the front entrance at the bottom of the steps at 5:30 PM sharp. We'll rally together before the Planning Commission meeting begins at 6:00 PM. The planning commission hearing is open to the public, so you're welcome to stay and witness this pivotal moment. Your presence matters—it shows decision-makers that the community stands united against reopening this slaughterhouse. Let's make history together. See you on June 22 at 5:30 PM at Pico Rivera City Hall. Together, we can close this chapter for good.
