Moral Character and Meat-Eating: A Philosophy Talk by Zach Ferguson

Zach Ferguson, a PhD Candidate and longtime friend of the Refuge, is returning to Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge for an exciting talk! In collaboration with Carolina Public Humanities, Ferguson will discuss contemporary philosophical debates about the ethics of meat eating. While some modern philosophers have posited that even a pro-animal lifestyle can include animal products, such as meat that will be thrown away, Ferguson pushes against this idea. His talk focuses on what it really means to reject speciesism, arguing that a more just world for all living beings requires changing the way that we think and feel about animals regardless of our actions. This talk gets to the core of the challenges and contradictions that face anyone who cares about animal welfare in our present moment.
