Billy & Tina's ZOO PROTEST

SUNDAY, March 15, from 10 to 12 noon!The elephants Billy and Tina, who used to be held at the Los Angeles Zoo, are shown here after they were tranfered to the bleak Tulsa Zoo. After the move the LA Zoo stated that exhibiting elephants would be put "on pause." On its website, the zoo claims they were moved because the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the zoo industry's regulatory agency, "requires accredited zoos to maintain a herd of at least three elephants because they are social animals, and keeping them in larger groups is crucial for their well-being. Following the loss of two older elephants, Jewel (61) in 2023 and Shaunzi (53) in 2024, the L.A. Zoo no longer met that standard. For the L.A. Zoo to consider the continuation of its elephant program, it would be necessary to bring in additional elephants. Creating a larger social herd at the L.A. Zoo is currently not a viable option due to the limited availability of Asian elephants within the AZA population." Join us as we demand the pause becomes permanent. The LA Zoo made Billy miserable for almost four decades. Lets make sure it never gets the chance to do that to any other elephants.
