Manning Beef goes to auction Wednesday—join us at the courthouse to ensure LA stays cow slaughter-free

Manning Beef, LA's last remaining cow slaughterhouse, is now in bankruptcy proceedings— and a once unthinkable opportunity has emerged. The City of Pico Rivera is hoping to purchase the Manning Beef property, with a clear commitment that it never again resumes slaughter operations. Instead, city leaders are reimagining it as affordable housing, a community park, or a sustainable business providing future-facing jobs. This is what hope looks like. Pico Rivera City leadership is calling this moment a “rare opportunity” to reimagine a long-standing industrial site in a way that improves quality of life and reflects shared values of purpose and compassion. It will also mean the end of cow-slaughtering anywhere in Los Angeles. But we need to act now. Manning Beef is going to a Sheriff's auction this Wednesday, January 28th, and we need to show prospective buyers how many of us stand firmly against reopening this facility for slaughter.
