We will be on the public sidewalk right in front of Subway restaurant rightfully holding Subway corporation accountable for their promise. Nearly 10 years ago, Subway publicly pledged to go 100% cage-free in relationship to the layer hens in their egg supply chain. Since then, they have failed to publicly report their progress. When a company does a PR move by announcing their intentions but then fails to show meaningful progress they deceive customers. The average customer thinks the company is following through with their Animal welfare commitment and feels better about patronizing, all the while, animal abuse is still taking place. These companies know this and will continue to profit off of animal abuse as long as they can if they are never held accountable to share their progress by third-party verification etc. How would you like to be stuck in an elevator so stacked with people you can't move? How long would you last in that environment? Think about this, how long would you keep a dog or cat in a small travel carrier before considering it being animal abuse? Egg laying hens are forced to live in battery cages their entire shortened life span of one and a half years only having individual room less than a standard sheet of paper. In these overcrowded cages, they are deprived of their natural behaviors, leading to stress, health issues, and severe suffering. Did you know your small involvement can help reduce the suffering of animals raised for food? Not long ago, 95% of egg producing industries were using battery cages to house layer chickens. This percentage has now dropped to approximately 65% because of involvement from people like you! States like California and Washington along with 13 other states now support cage-free animal farming practices! Nearly every restaurant industry in America has pledged to go 100% cage-free with layer hens in their egg supply chain; it is the new standard for Animal welfare.
