About this event
As ethical vegans, we try to live in a way that minimizes harm to animals. Many of us also try to live in such a way that non-vegans will be attracted rather than repelled by the idea of a compassionate lifestyle. If you're someone who would like to become more skilled in advocating for animals, please join us in a few weeks, when the Animal Advocates of South Central PA will be holding their annual Influencing Others For Animals Workshop, where you will learn: *How to be a successful advocate for animals, regardless of the "in the moment" outcome/reactions of others *That, while effective animal advocacy is informed by many different psychological principles, in practice, it is much more of an art than a science *Why choice of words matters so very much, and the hidden messages we are sending others, based on the animal-related terms we use *Why the phrase, "Go vegan!" is almost never effective as a stand-alone message, and what type of messaging is significantly more effective *Why being an effective advocate is (thankfully!) NOT about having all the "right answers" or comebacks *How to make the most of your online/social media comments, based on your audience Whether you are new to veganism, new to outreach but not veganism, or maybe you're a seasoned animal advocate and would like to brush up on your skills (or even share your tips with others), this workshop is for you. The concepts discussed will range from beginner to more advanced, so that literally everyone will find value in this event. Also, please don't be scared by the word "workshop." You may participate as much or as little as you like. No judgment. Here's what one repeat attendee had to say: "After almost a decade of performing animal advocacy and outreach in many different capacities, the Animal Advocates of South Central PA's "Influencing Others For Animals" workshop still consistently helps me find new approaches and techniques to hone and refine my interactions. This is why I keep going every year - the material is always fresh and evolving and it's for everyone. It also helps to refresh my vigor for fighting for the animals! And the humans you meet there are so friendly and welcoming. As an ethical vegan who is interested in helping animals, I really can't think of a better use of our time." This year, this event will be held in the community room of the Red Land Community Library, off 83, about halfway between Harrisburg and York. The room seats about 20 comfortably, so we are encouraging you to reserve your spot by marking yourself as "going" when you can. This will also let us know how much delicious lasagna, blueberry cheesecake, and gourmet brownies to have ready for you. Hope to see you there!
