Manitoba Ferret Mill Horror Global Vigil and Pet Store Protest

A recent investigation by Animal Justice revealed horrific and illegal conditions inside a Manitoba ferret mill. Likely the largest ferret mill in Canada, right in our own province. Bred for the pet industry, hundreds of ferrets were discovered in filthy sheds. The breeder confessed many ferrets died due to disease and predator attacks. When the ferrets are considered too sick, injured, or old, they are murdered in a homemade gas chamber. The Save Movement holds global vigils in March, and we will join by raising awareness of this issue. We will hold a vigil for the animals who suffer, and protest for changes. Our goal is fourfold: We are urging Petland to no longer sell ferrets supplied by breeders, and instead shift to offering ferrets for adoption, as they do with cats. We are amplifying and raising public awareness of the recent investigation into the Manitoba ferret mill by Animal Justice We are asking the Chief Veterinary Office to immediately seize the ferrets from David Holden Ferrets in Melita, Manitoba We are urging the provincial government to step up and immediately reinstate breeder licensing of dogs, ferrets, and other companion animals by enforcing the Animal Care Act. Action details: We will meet right outside the Petland store on Pembina at 1pm on March 8th. If we are asked to leave the storefront, we will walk up to Pembina Hwy and continue our action there. Please make signs with one of the above asks. Our goal is not to shame Petland, but to amplify the investigation by Animal Justice and educate the public. Many people will not know about the cruelty of animal breeding for pet stores and pet suppliers. Our action is love-based and focused on accomplishing goals. We use our anger to do the work necessary to make positive changes for animals in our province. Action will run 1pm-2:30pm. Parking may be available in the strip mall lot, or on side streets if you want to be super safe as we are not customers. There are bus stops nearby for transit convenience.
