Livestock in Protracted Crises: Pressures of Industrialisation in Settler-Colonial and Conflict-Affected Areas CRILS Online Workshop | Monday 10 March | 1100-1300 GMT | Register here Little attention is paid to the pressures of livestock industrialisation in protracted crises settings. This workshop explores how a confluence of neoliberal regimes, (settler) colonialism, and degraded national infrastructure in conflict settings are changing livestock practices, especially amongst indigenous communities. This in turn influences people’s health and well-being as well as cultural heritage and knowledge systems. Chaired by Prof. Lisa Boden (Dean of Veterinary Medicine and Head of Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh), this workshop brings together Dr Moayyad Bsharat (Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), Palestine), who will share his experiences as a veterinarian working extensively with communities in Palestine, and Prof. Ian Scoones (Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex) to present on the PASTRES project’s insights on neoliberalism, land reform and pastoralism in Sub-Saharan Africa.
