Call to action for the captive Gentoo Penguins for World Penguin Day

In a windowless basement beneath London, Sea Life imprisons 15 Gentoo Penguins. They will spend their entire lives in captivity if we don’t free them. Gentoo Penguins can dive more than 600 feet deep and swim up to 22 miles an hour, they are the fastest of any other diving bird. They are classified as least concern (LC) on the IUCN red list and its numbers are stable. Interesting facts about the Gentoo Penguins During deep dives they reduce their heart rate from 80 to 100 beats per minute down to 20 beats per minute. Gentoo Penguins use nesting materials ranging from pebbles and molted feathers in Antarctica to vegetation on sub Antarctic islands. Gentoo Penguins are the third largest penguin, following the Emperor and King. These penguins are denied not only daylight but crucially they are denied every basic instinct and normal behaviour that they are born to have. How cruel and frustrating animals lives are in captivity. No animal belongs in a cage or a tank. Sentient beings imprisoned for life and as one activist said their only crime is being a different Species. The exploitation must end. We will have leaflets and posters.
