About this event
Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of “Mitz: The Marmoset of Bloomsbury” by Sigrid Nunez. This meeting will take place online, via zoom. In 1934, a marmoset named Mitz came into the care of Virginia Woolf’s husband Leonard. Mitz developed a relationship with each of them, as well as with their dogs and members of their Bloomsbury circle. This mock biography uses letters and other archival documents to observe the lives of writers and artists shadowed by war and mental breakdown. (Virginia Woolf’s novel Flush was a “biography” of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s dog.) To participate you must read at least half the book — and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (a few days before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup. The VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic.
