About this event
In order to receive your Zoom link, please send an email up to 1 h before the event begins – if you’re reading this now, why would you wait? 😊 info@dancefreedom.com Note from your Meetup Organizer My name is Ron, your Meetup organizer, and I’m not hosting this event. I’ve attended Dance Freedom twice, I had lots of fun, a few people were dancing via Zoom with cameras turned on, non-stop for an hour – they let you keep your camera on or off. Some folks were dancing on a trampoline; I also enjoyed the variety of rhythms such as Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, and ethnic house music including Middle-Eastern House, Latin House, Afro House, Electro House, etc... Yes, the DJ was very good! They have different DJ’s as well. About Dance Freedom Movement The birth of the Dance Free movement began out doors on the Cambridge Commons, Cambridge, MA, in the mid-sixties when the Town Fathers granted permission for festivals to take place each Sunday afternoon throughout the summer. Rock and folk concerts were held on one side, drum and blues took place on the other side of the Commons, inspiring many people to dance freely alone, together, in small groups, and huge circles barefoot on the grass and ecstatic in the sun. In 1968, Ted Moynihan, an artist, dancer and drummer, started to organize weekly Wednesday night free-style dance parties all year-round. That was when the Dance Free movement was born. If you’re in Massachusetts, you can join in-person at two locations in Cambridge MA or Jamaica Plains; however, do check the Dance Freedom website first before you make your plans.
