Central Texas Pig Rescue - Pigkin Fest

Let's give 'em pumpkin to talk about... Join us for a gourd-eous fall day spent with our pig friends, learning their stories, and sharing snacks. We'll leave the "tricks" up to the pigs (they'll try to trick you into more treats, that is!). This event is intended for guests of all ages (you're never too old to Trick or Treat in the enchanted pig forest). Mutual Trick or Treating You'll embark on a walking tour to each of our neighborhoods, receive some goodies, and be given some snacks to share with the pigs. You're welcome to bring treats from our pre-approved list below, as well! All edible goods on site will be 100% vegan/plant-based. In each neighborhood, you'll get to meet members of the CTPR team and learn about the pigs themselves. You'll be up close and personal with them, enjoying quality time and belly rubs. This event involves quite a bit of walking. If anyone in your party needs special accommodations for mobility, please let us know by emailing tracey@centraltexaspigs.org. Costumes Welcome! We welcome & encourage costumes but please be mindful of the environment! We hope you show up in your spooky-best, but ask that all accessories like swords, wands, toy weapons, etc, are kept at home. Remember, this is the great outdoors, and you may get dirty snouts leaving their mark on you! Closed, sensible footware (sneakers, boots) is required; there might be mud, and will definitely be dirt and poop. Treats for Pigs: Acceptable snacks for pigs include: pumpkins, watermelon, apples, carrots, cucumbers, iceberg lettuce, strawberries, bananas. Please check with a CTPR team member before passing out snacks. Please avoid: stonefruits, avocados, or any fruits/veggies with a pit, potatoes. Please do not bring foods with added salt. Please remove all labels and please avoid bringing single-use plastic on site as bags can easily get lost and are a hazard to our free-roaming donkeys and goats. Arrival... Please arrive no earlier than 11:45 and no later than 12:15. Please carpool if possible! We have limited parking spots! We are located in Smithville, TX, and the address will be provided in the confirmation email to preserve anonymity. If you are looking for an approximate location, we are about 10 min from the Home Depot in Bastrop! The Cause CTPR is an all-volunteer, all donation-based organization! Your contributions, visit, on-site help, and social media posts about us help to spread the word and bring more awareness to our organization. This event is a fundraiser for our winter needs. The Texas climate is changing, and each winter gets colder and colder. Our goal is to insulate all of our pig cabins before the coldest part of winter to help our aging residents stay cozy! Bring/Wear... Of course, we want you to dress in costume! You might get dirty and you might be dealing with our fickle Texas weather, though so please be sure to wear breathable clothing. We often recommed covering legs if you might be trekking through forest. Refillable water bottle. We have a cooler on site to refill. Hats, sunblock, sunglasses, jackets, rainwear....be ready for anything!. Personal snacks for yourself (plant-based only), if needed. Please keep these in your vehicle and not in your pockets, as the pigs will find them. Additional rules: Out of respect for the animals, CTPR does not permit any animal-based food products on site. Thank you for understanding! Please do your best to avoid single-use plastic on site, and if you are bringing snacks for the pigs, do not leave any snacks unattended inside or outside of the enclosures. We have free-roaming donkeys and goats who have a sixth sense for unattended snacks, and they have been known to chew right through a plastic bag! Children are always welcome on site, and the pigs are often delighted to meet them! We recommend you have some animal-etiquette talks ahead of your visit! But our team will also provide a lesson in how to approach and interact with the pigs.
