Please join us for our third event in this term's Talking Animals, Law & Philosophy series, organised by the Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law. Diego Rossello, Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Santiago, Chile), will join us to present 'Animal Dignity or Animal Magnetism? On Extending Dignity to Non-Human Animals'. The event will take place on Monday 4th November, 5.00-6.30 pm (UK time) on Zoom. This event is open to all and a recording will be made available on our website afterwards. The paper reviews the state of the art on the question of the species-specific contours of dignity and suggests that 'exclusive dignitarianism' should be rejected. In addition, the paper examines alternative conceptual resources already present in contemporary ecocriticism that challenge hierarchies between humans and animals without necessarily engaging in 'dignity talk,' such as 'animal magnetism.'
