Kristin Andrews in Talking Animals, Law & Philosophy

Kristin Andrews, York Research Chair in Animal Minds and Professor of Philosophy at York University (Canada), will join us to talk about “Social Norms in Animal Cultures”. The event will take place on Wednesday 23rd October, 5.00-6.30 pm (UK time) on Zoom. This event is open to all and a recording will be made available on our website afterwards. As we continue to find evidence of culture in animals across species, this is a good time to examine the kind of cultures animals have, and explore the social implications of living with other cultural animals. In this talk I will offer an argument in favor of animals having a type of rich culture that includes social norms. I will explore three implications of robust animal culture: shared human-animal social norms, multi-culturalism and cultural appropriation, and the responsibilities that accompany communicating with other animal cultures.
