Burke Lake 5-mile Loop Trail & Opt/Picnic

Burke Lake Loop Trail, a 4.8 mile trail that goes around the lake, was rated one of the 10 best trails in the nation. This easy trail offers scenic views of the water. Since it's a relatively flat trail, we will try to maintain a pace of 2.5 - 3.0 mph but may stop for pictures and to enjoy the scenic views. The trail is mostly shaded with a mix of gravel and paved surfaces. We will stay for an optional picnic lunch after the hike, or can go to a nearby restaurant. Please post which you would prefer. We will meet at the Train & Carousel parking lot. Entry is free for Fairfax County Residents. There was no attendant there last week but they sometimes charge a $12 parking for non-residents, so car pooling is suggested.
