The political representation of nonhuman animals: a primer

In recent years, a growing number of scholars, activists and politicians from animal and mainstream parties have argued that animals should have their interests represented in policy-making. In this talk, Pablo Magana introduces this discussion. After briefly mentioning the main arguments for representing animals politically, he will survey several institutional proposals on offer, highlighting their potential promises and challenges, and stressing the need for empirically-minded academics (political scientists, sociologists, etc.) to join in the discussion and provide us with the tools needed to move the debate—and the political proposal—forward.
