About this event
Please join us on May 23rd, 2024 at 1 p.m. EST. I'm delighted to speak with Richard Schwartz, PhD. Richard, a prominent figure in veganism and environmental sustainability, has profoundly impacted the Jewish and broader communities. Born in 1934, his early life instilled a commitment to ethics and social justice. Despite a career in mathematics, his interest in Judaism led him to advocate for veganism and environmental stewardship.
Schwartz's seminal work, "Judaism and Vegetarianism," published in 1982, argues convincingly for the alignment of a plant-based diet with Jewish values. Through lectures, debates, and organizational leadership, he has tirelessly promoted the ethical, health, and environmental benefits of veganism, particularly within Jewish institutions.
His advocacy extends to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the environmental benefits of a plant-based diet and urging individuals to consider the ecological impact of their dietary choices. Engaging in interfaith dialogues, Schwartz highlights shared ethical principles, fostering a broader movement towards ethical and sustainable living.
Recognized for his activism, Schwartz has received numerous awards, including the "Courage of Conscience Award." His legacy is evident in the growing acceptance of veganism within Jewish communities and society at large.
Richard H. Schwartz's contributions to veganism and environmental sustainability have profoundly influenced ethical living. His advocacy, grounded in Jewish teachings, inspires a compassionate and sustainable way of life, urging action towards a more ethical and sustainable future.
