Animal Sanctuary Workday

It's time to get dirty! We are heading to Martinez, CA to help out two incredible animal sanctuaries. Together, One Living Sanctuary and Animal Liberation Temple have over 100 residents and they can always use help. This month, we will be offering our assistance in whatever way they need. Some of the jobs are: picking up poop, cleaning out sleeping areas/stalls, and fixing fencing just to name a few. After we are done with all the chores, it's time to get to know the animals. The cows, goats, and horses love to be brushed and they can often use a good brushing after they get muddy. If you've got an apple slice, you are their friend for life. The pigs would also love to receive a nice belly rub and who knows, you may even get to sit and relax with the chickens. This is a day that these sanctuaries count on all of us to show up and be able to work. There are small and large jobs to be done so don't worry if you can't lift a 50lb bag or bale of hay. We want you to engage with and love the animals, but we ask you to be mindful of their individual personalities. Some may love attention while others may not. We ask that nobody under the age of 10yo show up on these particular workdays. We appreciate everyone but need to make sure we are showing up to offer much needed assistance. We will gather and go over tasks at 10am in the One Living Sanctuary driveway so please be respectful and show up on time. Food/snacks will be provided but feel free to bring your own food. Make sure to have a water bottle to keep with you as you work. We will help with chores around the sanctuary. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, jeans are best, and gloves (there will be gloves provided if you do not have your own). It will be VERY muddy so wear galoshes if you have them. There will be simple jobs, dirty jobs (my favorite) as well as jobs that may require a higher level of physical fitness (my super favorite). The property is very large (around 120 acres) and it is not flat. There is a rather long, uphill road leading to the Animal Liberation Temple. No matter your physical abilities, though, there is plenty to do, we just want everyone to be aware that there are very steep hills that can be challenging to climb. It is fairly rough terrain in general, especially due to the weather. Please drive slowly down the long driveway. There are sometimes animals around and we want everyone to be safe. We recommend wearing layers as it can be cold early in the morning but will most likely get extremely hot by mid-day. If you have work gloves, please bring them but we will have extra if needed as well as hand sanitizer.
