About this event

Heart disease touches us all. It holds the long-standing title as the leading cause of death in the US despite the millions of statins, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, anticoagulants, and aspirin prescribed every year. Fortunately, there’s another promising path we can take to protect our hearts. In this monthly series, you’ll hear the powerful and evidence-based facts about the relationship between cardiovascular health and the food on your plate. We’ll explore the science and the health benefits of consuming a low-fat, whole food, plant-based diet with our guest medical experts, including cardiologists and nutritionists. In March, we're joined by Ali Saad, MD, DipABLM. Dr. Saad’s work focuses on food’s connection between human and planetary health. He is board-certified in Neurology, Stroke, and Lifestyle Medicine and has been practicing for over 15 years. He completed a fellowship in climate change and health policy at the University of Colorado's Climate & Health Program where he is now affiliate faculty. Dr. Saad is co-chair of the neurology member interest group at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He also co-leads Neurologists Interested in Climate and Health (NICHe). Heart to Healthy Heart is created and hosted by PPMNY community members, Ben Martens, Judy Zerden, and Jim Spellos, who have each experienced heart conditions and found healing and hope through a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. Registrants will receive a reminder to tune into our livestream on Facebook or YouTube. We invite you to make a donation when you register -- or join for free if you're unable to contribute.
