About this event
Canning is a method of food preservation in which food is processed and sealed in an airtight container (i.e., Mason jars). Canning provides a shelf life that typically ranges from 1-5 years and studies have shown that canned fruits and vegetables are actually as rich in dietary fiber and vitamins (if not more so) than the fresh or frozen counterparts.
In this class, Chef Nico will teach you why food spoils and how to prevent it using the simple and age-old techniques of canning. He will take you through the basics of canning and help you to create three different and tasty items including a delicious cranberry orange marmalade, a fresh plum spice jam and a jar of candied jalapenos otherwise known as "cowboy candy". The flavors of each of these create a zesty accompaniment to a variety of dishes. Besides lifting your taste buds, they will add texture and color to your plate.
By the end of this class, you’ll have the skills necessary to extend the life of your favorite seasonal fruits to fill your pantry and fridge with your own edible creations and keep the bounty of seasonal harvests on your plate all year long!
*This is a hands-on class. Each person will have their own station to learn alongside with Chef Nico. You will create your own jar of each to take home. An electronic recipe & instruction card is emailed to you within 72-hours after the conclusion of the class.**
