About this event
Tis the holiday season!
Come together with Plant Powered Metro New York in Harlem for our second annual Holiday Dessert Potluck. Let’s meet in-person to share, savor, and exchange whole food, plant-based treats — perfect for the holidays!
Registrants are invited to prepare a whole food, plant-based dessert recipe by entering their choice into a spreadsheet — either the dish you've prepared for the potluck or one you've enjoyed this season.
There are limited slots to contribute non-food items such as paper goods including cups, napkins and cutlery. However, you will not be entered in the contest to win prizes.
Everyone who attends will vote for the contest winners. Recipes can be submitted as individuals, or as a team of two or more people. The three prize categories are detailed below. Prizes include a $50 and $25 gift card to Whole Foods Market and a PPMNY bag filled with spices and other kitchen goodies!
Individual Category:
Best Flavor Harmony: $50 Whole Foods Market gift card
Recognizing the dessert that achieves the perfect balance of flavors, textures, and overall taste experience like deliciousness and harmonious combination of ingredients.
Most Creative Presentation: $25 Whole Foods Market gift card
Awarded to the dessert that showcases the most innovative and artistic presentation based on factors such as visual appeal, uniqueness, and creativity in the arrangement and design of the dessert.
Team Category:
People's Choice Award: Bag of Kitchen Goodies
This award goes to the dessert made by a team of two or more that receives the most popular votes. It's the crowd favorite.
Only those who bring a homemade dessert are eligible to enter the competition. No store bought desserts will be served.
Competition dietary guidelines:
Use primarily unprocessed plant foods: beans, whole grains, fruit, nuts and seeds, and even vegetables!
Refrain from using refined grains like white rice or white flour. Flours are acceptable, as long as they are 100% whole grain. Examples include whole wheat, sorghum, brown rice, and almond. Nuts are also acceptable.
Refrain from using any added oils, eggs or dairy. See this Ingredient Substitution Chart resource for how to make delicious desserts without them.
Minimize added sweeteners and salt, and avoid highly-refined and artificial sweeteners.
