About this event

Long time activist Fernando Cuenca is giving a talk about how animal rights advocacy is shaped when performed in countries ravaged by war, in which he’ll draw from his own experience growing up and co-founding an animal rights organization in Colombia. Colombia has suffered an open, multifaceted armed conflict for almost 60 years. But is the violence we experience as Colombians somehow related to the violence animals experience? Is one the cause of the other? Do they feed each other? How is activism affected by the conflict? Is being an activist safe? This talk will try to answer these questions, as they relate to my experience growing up surrounded by war and doing animal rights activism in Colombia as well as looking at the present and possible future developments in both human and non-human rights. This talk was given at the International Animal Rights Conference. Fernando will also share his experience while attending the conference. http://ar-conference.org/ Air purifiers will be used inside the meeting room to reduce COVID-19 exposure. Please RSVP so we have an idea on attendance. See you then! This event is not affiliated with the Seattle Public Library.
