About this event

Have you ever wanted to give a pig a bellyrub? Brush a cow? Kiss a goat? You can do all of these things and more while providing much needed help to two local animal sanctuaries. This is an incredible day spent interacting with the animals we all fight so hard to save. Get ready to pick up lots of poop, shovel straw, rake mulch, and generally have a quacking good time! This is a day that these sanctuaries count on all of us to show up and be able to work. There are small and large jobs to be done so don't worry if you can't lift a 50lb bag or bale of hay. We want you to engage with and love the animals, but we ask you to be mindful of their individual personalities. Some may love attention while others may not. We ask that nobody under the age of 10yo show up on these particular workdays. We appreciate everyone but need to make sure we are showing up to offer much needed assistance. Thank you for understanding. We encourage carpooling as much as possible. Reach out if you need a ride or can offer a ride. We will gather and go over tasks at 10am in the One Living Sanctuary driveway so please arrive early. Food/snacks will be provided but feel free to bring your own food. Make sure to have a water bottle to keep with you as you work. We will help with chores around the sanctuary. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, jeans are best, work boots (or rubber boots as there is a LOT of mud), and gloves (there will be gloves provided if you do not have your own). There will be simple jobs, dirty jobs (my favorite) as well as jobs that may require a higher level of physical fitness (my super favorite). The property is very large (around 120 acres) and it is not flat. There are small and large hills to climb. The house and main animal areas are mostly flat and accessible but understand that the Animal Liberation Temple is at the top of a very large, steep hill. This is wonderful exercise for those who are able to climb it. We may have transportation to the top of the hill depending on the weather. No matter your physical abilities, there is plenty to do but we want everyone to be aware that there are very steep hills leading to an amazing view. Please drive slowly down the long driveway. There are sometimes animals around and we want everyone to be safe. We recommend wearing layers as it can be cold early in the morning and very warm by mid-day. If you have work gloves, please bring them but we will have extra if needed as well as hand sanitizer. Also, it is mandatory to sign this volunteer waiver! dxe.io/sanctuarywaiver Spending time with the animals we are fighting for is not only good for your mental health and well being but it reinforces our commitment to the cause.
