About this event
As the Sonoma Rescue Trial approaches, we will learn from open rescue pioneer Adam Durand about his trial nearly 20 years ago.
In 2004, Adam Durand and his team investigated and recorded the dire conditions at a so-called “humane” egg farm owned by Wegmans in New York, and they rescued 11 chickens. This footage was made into a 27-minute documentary. In 2006, he was sentenced to 6 months in jail, unlikely for a low-level offense. What went wrong and what went right? How did a powerful corporation like Wegmmans affect the trial? Adam will talk about this rescue and trial, how this jail sentence changed his life, and how his trial differed from the Smithfield and Foster Farms trials.
Afterwards, we will take the lessons Adam shares with us, grab food from a local vegan restaurant, and workshop ways for us to amplify the story of animals in the upcoming Sonoma Rescue Trial.
