Bill C-275 was introduced recently in Parliament by the Conservative Party under the guise of being a “biosecurity” bill, but its true aim is to cover up animal cruelty on Canadian farms. This bill will make going onto an animal farm without permission an indictable offence with fines of up to $250,000 or up to two years in jail. Meanwhile, an organization could be fined as much as $500,000. When we last fought a federal ag gag bill in 2021, we just needed to change the mind of NDP MPs, but now it’s the Liberal party that’s been supporting the advancement of the bill.
