About this event

*** The Thursday Murder Club, a novel by Richard Osman. Join our 2 April Earthlings Book club meeting to discuss one of the most popular novels in the recent times. In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it's too late? Date: 2 April 2022 Time: 10:00-11:00am Hong Kong time (GMT+8) Venue: Zoom (Dial In details will be shared on the event day -few hours before the meeting) Language: English Cost: Free *** Welcome again to Earthlings Book Club! As Earthlings, we are all about expanding our horizon. Many of us read for hobby, for work or for personal growth. From books, we gain ideas, insights and wisdoms beyond our daily experience. By sharing what we read, we supercharge this process and open our minds to ideas we have never imagined before! It is also a great way to get to know each other. Let's relax and enjoy the weekend with some fun book discussions! How to join? In each session, we encourage everyone to share books that they have read (first come first serve)! People who do not have a book to share are also welcome, listen and ask questions :) Just click "attend" on this meetup and we will take it from there. What kind of books can I share? Book selected for the meeting day. Books that are closely aligned with theme of the day. Books outside the theme of the day are also welcome! Fiction/non-fiction; humanities/science; conventional/controversial; bestsellers/lesser known...any books that would spark interesting discussions. We trust your good judgement and good taste :) What to expect? It will be a very casual sharing meetup, not a regular Toastmasters meeting. Here are some suggestions on what to share, if you choose to speak about a different book. Who is the author? Summary of the book Key plots/ideas How does this book speak to you? Who would you recommend/not recommend this book to? Do you have any questions about the book you still think about? Any other thoughts/feelings/antidote etc. We do encourage the sharers to read a short paragraph/some quotes aloud from the book. This will help the audience get a taste of the book. After the sharing, the audience could ask questions or share their thoughts/feelings/antidotes on the subject. The sharer could provide additional information about the book during the conversations. The host will advice when it is time for another book. *** This is a completely different format from our regular Earthlings Toastmasters meetings on 2nd (English), 3rd (Mandarin) and 4th (English) Sunday. Please join with your camera on for transparency. We ask that you respect others’ privacy by not sharing screen shots of other members without their permission. Look forward to seeing you all soon!
