About this event

Join Governor Jared Polis, First Gentleman Marlon Reis, Chancellor Jeremy Haefner, and Dean Bruce Smith in celebrating the University of Denver’s new Institute for Animal Sentience and Protection. A collaborative effort between the Sturm College of Law and Graduate School of Social Work, the Institute will seek to expand our scientific understanding of the cognitive and emotional capabilities of nonhuman animals and advance the protection of animals resulting from this evolving understanding. The Institute is made possible through a legacy gift from long-time animal advocate Dr. Robert Brinkmann. Shortly following the program, Dr. Alexandra Horowitz will give the Institute’s inaugural lecture. An international expert on the canine mind, Dr. Horowitz is a professor at Barnard College at Columbia University where she heads the Dog Cognition Lab. Please register for the celebratory event and lecture now. Refreshments and a vegan spread will be provided.
