Know Your Rights Training for Organizers with Attorney Bennet Zurofsky

Join us for an informative Know Your Rights Training for Organizers with civil and human rights attorney and activist Bennet Zurofsky. Though the content will be geared towards organizers, this event is open to all activists and attendees of the Vegan Earth Day March happening on April 22nd in cities around the world. Come with your questions! This training will cover: 1. Basic first amendment protections for demonstrators and marchers 2. Whether or not you should seek a permit 3. How much you should share with the police in advance 4. The importance of seeking local legal counsel More about the speaker: Bennet Zurofksy has dedicated his life to advancing the causes of labor, peace, and social justice as a lawyer, musician, and activist. He regularly provides pro bono representation and advice to activists working for progressive change and he is particularly known for assisting demonstrators when they stand their ground and exercise their free speech rights in the face of police hostility. His current pro bono activity includes: serving as General Counsel to the New Jersey Poor People's Campaign and providing ongoing advice and representation to many groups that are part of the New Jersey Resistance to the Trump Administration. Since Donald Trump’s election, he has represented more demonstrators on a pro-bono basis in municipal court than any other attorney in New Jersey. Bennet holds many accolades including being listed in Woodard/White’s "The Best Lawyers in America" since 1999. Outside of the office, you will find him on a picket line, supporting worker and community struggles, working for peace and responsible government, defending free speech rights, and raising fighting spirits as the Director of the Solidarity Singers of the New Jersey Industrial Union Council.
