She’ll also share her journey to veganism and animal rights activism, what led her to start writing thriller books, the challenges along the way to becoming an award-winning published vegan author, and why she thinks everyone can use their talents/skills to affect social change.About Maya Cohen-Ronen Maya Cohen-Ronen (writing under the pen name M. C Ronen) is an award-winning author. She has been vegan since 2012 and an animal rights activist for nearly as long. Raised with a strong feminist identity, she chose to study for her Masters degree in Gender and Society at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, a magical experience she would never forget.Maya went vegan overnight after realizing the full horror inflicted on animals by the dairy industry. At the time she was a mother of a young baby and couldn’t fathom causing so much pain to another being, a grieving mother, regardless of species.  As an animal rights activist, she organizes the Animal Save Movement chapter in her hometown of Wellington, and is frequently a participant in other animal rights actions, protests, marches, and disruptions.An avid fiction reader, with a penchant for dystopian thrillers, she soon discovered that since becoming vegan she could no longer enjoy reading. Each book presented a challenge of speciesism and animal cruelty. She realized that not only safe, speciesism-free fiction books were difficult to find, but fiction books that deliberately promoted animal rights and veganism were all too rare.It was this realization that led her to write the award-winning ‘THE LIBERATION TRILOGY’, a series of dystopian suspense books with a strong female lead and an ethical message, suitable for vegans AND pre-vegans. You can find out more about Maya and the books on her website.
