About this event
Book release date: October 11, 2022, W.W. Norton
Join our December discussion of A Silent Fire: The Story of Inflammation,
Diet, and Disease by gastroenterologist Shilpa Ravella, MD. In her
inaugural book, the author investigates hidden inflammation’s emerging role
as a common root of modern disease — and how we can control it. With
fascinating case studies, Ravella debunks common myths about
“ant-inflammatory” lifestyles and reveals how we can reform our
relationships with food and our microbiomes to benefit our own health and
the planet’s. This event is presented with Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan.
We’ll begin with a book discussion, facilitated by Lynn Diamond, PPMNY's
Associate Network Director & Director of Community Education, followed by a
Q&A with Dr. Ravella who is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia
University Medical Center and a PPMNY Medical Advisor. Her writing has
appeared in The Atlantic, New York Magazine, Slate, Discover, and USA
Today.
Please note that this is a book group discussion and will not include a
report on the contents of the book. Those who have not read any of the book
will find less value in the discussion than those who read at least some if
not all of it.
Event access is by donation or free to anyone unable to contribute. Please
choose the option that fits you best and join us! Registrants will receive
a Zoom link on the day of the event.
