About this event

Presented with HeartSmarts. Have you tried to make the switch to a plant-based lifestyle and gotten sidetracked? Or do you feel intimidated to even try? The Pleasure Trap, as described by Douglas J. Lisle, PhD, and Alan Goldhamer, DC, is the forces around us that make it difficult to walk away from pleasurable yet destructive habits like eating processed foods and overeating. But there are strategies that can help. Join Howard Jacobson, PhD, for a 3-part series that explains what the Pleasure Trap is, how to avoid getting stuck, and some tips and tricks for getting back on track if you stumble. Topics covered will include: * Social pressures and how to \"get along without going along\" * Why different personality types need different strategies for success * How to balance the Pleasure Trap with the \"ego trap\" without getting caught in either * Why progress, not perfection, should be your guiding star * Q&A on any other questions! Howard Jacobson, PhD, is a teacher and coach who loves sharing the message of healthy living, and empowering people to take control of their habits, behaviors, environments, and health destinies. He is the host of the Plant Yourself Podcast and is the author of many other books including Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition with T. Colin Campbell, PhD, and Proteinaholic with Garth Davis, MD. Howard co-founded WellStart Health, a digital health improvement platform for members of organizations, individuals, and health plan participants.Howard earned his MPH and PhD in Health Studies from Temple University, and his BA from Princeton University. He lives on an ecological farm in rural North Carolina, where he writes, gardens, plays Ultimate Frisbee, runs ultra marathons, and practices Russian Martial Arts. His goals include shaking up healthcare, sharing how delicious and joyful a healthy life can be, saving the planet, and reintroducing people to their most authentic, best selves. Attendance at all three sessions is encouraged but not required. Event access is by donation or free to anyone unable to contribute. Please choose the option that fits you best and join us! Registrants will receive a Zoom link on the day of the event.
