About this event
Zines are a creative, self-validating, and anti-capitalist method of publishing writing and artwork with topics that often exist outside of the status quo. Their contents are open to a wide range of creative output like poetry, essays, prose, drawings, comics, photographs, and just about anything that can be expressed in print!Join Suzy González for a talk on creating self-published DIY zines as an empowering tool for using one’s voice, growing community, and making change. She will cover what zines are, the history behind them, zine festivals, some of her favorite zines, and how to begin creating and distributing your own zine. Following her talk, she will facilitate a zine-making/writing workshop that will cover two different zine-making methods with a writing prompt to get you started.Learn more about Suzy and her Xicana Vegan zines here.CHECK OUT SOME OF HER WORK Contents Include:Vegan Queso Recipe7 - Layer Dip RecipeGrocery ListMenudo RecipeOrdering en EspañolFrijolitos RecipeInterview with Rebel MariposaFideo RecipeRecommended ReadingInterview with Lauren Ornelas of Food Empowerment Project.
