About this event

Presented with HeartSmarts and Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan. Behind most modern diseases is inflammation — hidden from sight but increasingly understood as the root of our health challenges. Why is inflammation so common, and is it inevitable? Learn how to control your health through food, and its miraculous interplay with the trillions of microorganisms that live in our gut, with nutrition expert and gastroenterologist Shilpa Ravella, MD, author of the forthcoming book A Silent Fire, The Story of Inflammation, Diet and Disease (W. W. Norton, October 11, 2022).  Dr. Ravella is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, author, and PPMNY Medical Advisor. She treats a range of general gastrointestinal ailments and has unique experience in managing complex rare diseases. She is an expert in the field of nutrition and is particularly interested in the interactions between food, the microbiome and the immune system. We’ll talk more about Dr. Ravella's inaugural book A Silent Fire for our Plant Powered Book Club on December 12th. Sign up here to be a part of the discussion followed by a Q&A with the author. Event access is by donation or free to anyone unable to contribute. Please choose the option that fits you best and join us! Registrants will receive a Zoom link on the day of the event.
