About this event

AWSELVA Summer Webinar 2022 - A Snapshot of Animal Welfare around the World Description The objective of this webinar is to provide a snapshot of current animal welfare issues in different regions across the globe. Those issues range from ethical issues in veterinary practice, new laws being put forward, cases of animal abuse, economically driven welfare issues, socially driven welfare issues, proposals for initiatives that could bring about better welfare, or a commentary on welfare in animal-care teaching. Chaired by Ellie Wigham, we will have 12 representatives from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania and Africa presenting short commentaries on their experience of the present animal welfare situation. The speakers’ expertise encompasses veterinary medicine, animal science, animal welfare law, animal welfare at policy level and veterinary forensics. In this informal event speakers will present their own perceptions of animal welfare issues in their regions, creating a mosaic of expert-informed thought that will provide a window into animal welfare, relevant to anyone who works, lives with or cares for animals, this may include but not limited to veterinary practitioners, veterinary students, vet nurses and students, animal welfare lawyers and forensics experts, law students, animal policy-makers, ethicists, farmers, wildlife workers, pet owners.
