About this event

The impact of colonialism goes beyond the damage inflicted on the colonized countries. It has created a specific framework of perceiving radicalized bodies that perpetuates and aids neo-colonialism around the globe. In this talk Leila will explore the role of colonialism and neocolonialism on animal agriculture and today’s food choices and how by decolonizing plant-based nutrition we can reach more communities around the globe. ### About Dr Leila Dehghan  Dr Leila Dehghan is a doctor turned nutritionist and personal trainer. She received her medical degree from the University of Vienna and completed her internship in the UK. Her debilitating migraines compelled her to quit her medical career. Although Leila became vegan for ethical reasons, she discovered the power of a whole food plant-based diet and healed her migraines through diet. This experience shifted her professional interests. She pursued a Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate at eCornell, part of Cornell University, and obtained a Master’s of Science degree in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition from the University College of London. Her thesis focused on the role of food triggers in migraine.  As an amateur martial artist she takes a keen interest in sports nutrition and has developed the online Plant-Based Sports Nutrition Course for the Plant-Based HealthProfessionals UK and Veganfitness.com. Leila is passionate about food justice and health equity. Her project “[Food Justice & Race](https://drleilad.com/foodjustice-and-race/)” offers a platform to people of global majority to discuss racism, food injustice and health inequity. Leila is a member of the Advisory Board and the education lead for the Plant-based Health Professionals UK, and has created the 21 Day Plant-based Health Challenge to invite more people to go plant-based.
