On the Pulse: Veganism and Abrahamic Religion

Veganism isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Abrahamic religion, but a growing number of Jews, Christians, and Muslims are embracing veganism in the UK, due to deeply-held ethical beliefs and values that align both with ethical veganism and the ethical spirit of these 3 religions. But with religion being so deeply entwined with tradition and culture, what does the vegan experience for those identifying with an Abrahamic religion look like? Ellie's PhD research explores just this and seeks to understand how veganism is understood in relation to each religion, how the vegan experience is shaped by religious and cultural beliefs, values, and practices, and whether there are any challenges to veganism posed by religion and culture, and how these are managed and overcome. By better understanding the experiences of vegans who also identify with a religion, we can achieve more meaningful communication between vegan and religious communities, and thus more effective advocacy efforts. **About On the Pulse:** On the Pulse is a webinar series organised by the research team at The Vegan Society.
